Miracles

The quote I turned to today said, "The most incredible thing about miracles is that they happen." It made me smile, but I had no idea I would get a real miracle myself today.
It was a good day, this morning Kade and Ryder rode their bikes over to their friends house and played all morning. Tenley and I had some fun girl time. I put a little make up on her, she taught me how to play a card game that she had learned with her cousin JT, and we also played Jenga and Life. It was fun!
The boys got home, we had lunch, and then we headed to piano lessons. Their teacher started off with a game that my three oldest kids played with the other two girls who had just finished their lesson. It's a fun game. You get a mint or a life saver candy and you throw it on a huge over-sized picture of the grand staff. When your candy lands you have to name the note it would be. And then when the game is over you get to eat your mint. Ryder loves joining in on these games, especially for the candy. But he hated the taste of the lifesaver that he got so he switched it our for a mint. Several minutes later while Luke and I were playing on the floor I heard Ryder start choking. The mint had become stuck in his throat and he could not spit it out or swallow it back down. I thought he was going to throw up so we headed to the bathroom. He still couldn't spit it out. I gave him some water hoping that would help him swallow it. This whole time I keep thinking, 'he's not actually choking to death is he?!' But then seeing him struggle to breathe and hardly be able to talk I knew he really was choking. I pushed on his belly and hit on his back several times all while saying a prayer in my head over and over and over again. After talking with Brad I definitely did not do everything correctly, but somehow that darn mint finally came out after what felt like forever. I was so relieved and I feel so lucky. It wasn't until later that I realized why life savers are called life savers. They really will save your life. And they will be the only round candies I will give my kids from now on. Ryder's sweet little hand in mine and sweet little voice has never been so precious to me. Thank heavens miracles do happen.
