Hiking

Today we decided not to ride the shuttle and we found a great parking spot at Avalanche creek where the trailhead for our hike began. It saved us a lot of time! We wanted to hike the Trail of the Cedars and then we decided to hike all the way to Avalanche Creek. We thought it was a four mile easy hike but later learned it was five miles and moderate. We might not have taken the kids had we known this but they did a great job! And the lake was so beautiful! I've never seen such a beautiful turqoise lake. We had lunch when we got there and then hiked all the way around. On the way back the kids started getting really tired. Poor Tenley kept tripping and was on the verge of tears from her legs hurting so badly. And she was walking so slowly that we weren't keeping up with the boys very well. I finally told her that if she could keep up with Brad and not cry then we'd take her to get ice cream after the hike. Luckily that's all it took! Tenley toughened up after that. We held hands so I could catch her if she tripped, she never cried or begged to be held, and we kept up with Brad! I was so so SO PROUD of her! She was the youngest hiker I saw out there not needing to be held and she rocked it!
When the hike was over we headed straight to Apgar village to get our awesome kids some ice cream. They had delicious flavors. We even tried Huckleberry and it was really good.
After enjoying our ice cream and the view of Lake McDonald we drove up to McDonald Falls. I've learned on this trip that Ryder could throw rocks in water for hours! He loves it. Kade was the same way at that age!
Today was so much fun! None of us want to leave this beautiful place, but real life awaits...
The cool red bus that costs a fortune to ride. Maybe next time Kade 😉
