Marriage, Family Time

My brother-in-law posted a link to this great talk today: Marriage: Watch and Learn.
It was such a good reminder of the things you can do to make your marriage successful and happy. My favorite part was when he said that husbands and wives should "focus first on the home and on helping each other with their shared responsibilities. Their marriages are based on cooperation, not negotiation. Their dinner hour and the family time that follows become the center of their day and the object of their best efforts. They turn off electronics and forgo personal entertainment in order to help with household duties. To the extent possible, they read with their children every night and both participate in putting the little ones to bed. They retire to their bed together. As their duties and circumstances permit, husbands and wives work side by side in doing the most important work there is-the work we do in our own homes."

The time that comes after Brad walks in the door from school is definitely the best part of the day. I've always enjoyed the time we are then able to have as a family talking, eating dinner, and playing games. We aren't always perfect at it, sometimes Brad has a test he needs to study for, or I have to leave to visit people or go to a Relief Society activity, but after reading this I can see ways we can improve and I realize even more now how important that time is.
I'm so grateful for my wonderful marriage and my amazing husband who takes the time to reconnect with us all when he gets home from school. We love him!
