Service

I am committed this year to make service a way of life rather than something I put on my to do list. I often feel that I don't serve enough and I want to do more, but a lot of times I don't know what I can do, or what people need. But I think if I am just constantly thinking of others I will better know what I might be able to do to serve them. President Monson said,
"We are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness. . . We are the Lord's hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us."
If I am surrounded by people in need that probably means that everyone around me is in need of some type of service in one way or another. My children, my husband, my neighbors and friends. That gives me a lot of opportunity for service! I know that my children need my attention and comfort, and I know that my husband needs my encouragement and support, and I'm sure my neighbors and friends could use some kindness from me. This quote really helps me to understand that service can be small simple acts, it doesn't always have to be something big.
I also think that as we remember the golden rule, "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them," we will find many ways to serve others.
