Green Eggs and Ham

Day 58

Ryder and I have been doing reading lessons together since last Fall, but with the big kids home from school we seem to have less time to fit in his lessons. We often go days between reading together. That means that when we finally do have a lesson, the reading is a struggle for him. He doesn’t enjoy his reading lessons at all. But tonight he asked to read a book by himself. He chose “Green Eggs and Ham” and he tried his hardest to read all of the words by himself. When I would start sounding out a word to help him he said, “No don’t, I just need more time.” And then eventually he would read it. It took a while, but he made it through the book. I was so impressed with his motivation and his desire to do it by himself. He has a fire in him to do his best and I love seeing that come out.
