We had a lot to celebrate today and it was a blast! It started out with an early award breakfast for Brad. The breakfast was delicious! Brad received an award for most improved student. His name will be posted in the library at the school on a plauqe and he received $1200! We feel very grateful and I'm proud of Brad for achieving that!
Next we had church and Brad was able to give our sweet son Ryder Ricks Hobson a blessing at church. It made it so special to have the Grandpa's and many uncles there to participate in the blessing as well. Brad gave him a great blessing and Ryder looked so handsome in his blessing outfit!
Although this weekend was mainly focused on Brad and his amazing accomplishment, it was also fun to celebrate Hailey's birthday and Mother's Day. My Bishop's wife was thoughtful enough to ask me to send her a story about my mom that she wanted to share in her talk in church that day. It was a fun surprise for my mom! Here is the story she shared for me:
"My Mom has always been really good at following the spirit.
She was constantly serving my siblings and I humbly and quietly. She taught me
a lot about serving others and about how to control emotions even in hard
situations.
When I was in 6th grade I had a classmate with
long unruly hair that was never brushed. One day a couple girls dared me to go
and cut her hair. After several minutes of them taunting me to do it, I finally
walked over to this girl who had her back turned to me and cut off about an
inch of her hair. The other girls thought it was funny, but I was soon in the
most trouble I had ever been in in my life. I ended up being suspended from
school for a day and when I went home to talk to my mom about it I surprisingly
did not receive the lashing I expected and deserved. She was patient and calm
with me and didn’t say much, but I knew she was extremely disappointed in me. I learned two very important lessons that day,
1. That I never wanted to do anything in my life ever again that would
disappoint my Mother so much, and 2. That my mother is a saint! I know she
listened closely to the spirit that day about how to appropriately handle that
situation so that it would have the most impact on my young life for the
better.
I’m so grateful to have been raised by such a sweet, kind,
loving, patient, humble mother. She taught me how to serve, she taught me how
to love, she taught me the importance of staying close to my Savior. I love her
so much!"
My mom truly is amazing and I'm glad I was able to share that with her that day. It's been a long time since I've been able to be with her on Mother's day and so it made it extra special.
My amazing sister and sister-in-laws are pretty awesome examples to me of great moms as well. I learn so much just by watching them all the time. And my mother-in-law has left me a legacy that I'm sure I can never attain. She loved her role as a homemaker and mother and she excelled at it. I hope to have the relationship with my children that she formed with hers. Mother's are the best. We as mothers and women have the power to do so much good by raising good, strong children and making are home a safe haven. I'm lucky to be a mother and to be a homemaker. I'm so lucky to have 3 wonderful, amazing, happy kids. They make my life great!
Love this quote:
"One cannot forget mother and remember God. One cannot remember mother and forget God. Why? Because these two sacred persons, God and mother, partners in creation, in love, in sacrifice, in service, are as one." -Thomas S. Monson
