A few weeks before our trip Tenley made trophies at her art class to give to us all after our trip. She announced the winners today. Luke got the best hiker, Ryder got the best swimmer, Kade got the best snorkler, Brad got the best boogie boarder, and I got the best attitude. It was really cute and really sweet of her!

Tenley’s Trophies
The kids slept in late today! Tenley was the winner waking up after noon. Hopefully we somehow get back to our normal schedule soon.

Home
Three flights and two days of traveling were a lot. We finally made it home tonight at midnight! We’re excited to sleep in our own beds, but we’re all really missing Hawaii!

Maui
It was so hard to leave Maui today! This trip was amazing and I loved it there. It’s so beautiful and we made so many good memories. We spent a little time looking at the beach one last time before heading to the airport. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can come back!

Live Music
We planned on spending the day at Kanapali beach. There is a live Maui cam on YouTube that the kids have been watching since they’ve been so excited for this trip so they really wanted to see this beach. We got a picture of them on the cam and then found a place to set up our beach gear. When the kids went to play in the water, though, we quickly learned that it is not a great beach for little kids. There is a big drop off not far after you walk in the ocean and Luke about got swept away. A wave took him out and luckily I was close enough to grab him. We decided to drive to Kapalua beach instead. I’m so glad we did! There was a great spot for the little boys to swim, the snorkeling for Brad and the older two was amazing, and we saw whales! It was so, so cool. We got a rained on at the end of the day but it was still a really great beach day.
We stopped in Lahaina on the way home for dinner and live Hawaiian music. Live music is the best.

Maluaka Beach
We slept in this morning (compared to yesterday at least) and spent the day at Maluaka beach which is closer to where we’re staying. It wasn’t too crowded, likely due to the cloudy skies, and it was beautiful! I think it’s my favorite beach yet! We saw a cool frog that someone had sculpted in the sand which inspired us all to make sand creations of our own.
After our beach time we went to Makena cove. It was gorgeous! I love the black lava rock, green palm trees and clear blue water. This place is so beautiful!

Shaved Ice
We had another great day at the beach. The kids wanted to go to their favorite, Kamaole 1. Brad and Kade dropped us off and then went and found some good snorkeling in turtle town. Kade has been loving snorkeling. When they got back he took Ryder and me out and we some some beautiful coral, fish, and a turtle! It was fun to try something new. The wind picked up and we had a lot of sand blowing in our face. Luke had the idea to put goggles on to keep the sand out of his eyes and it definitely helped. The rest of us just got in the water and went bodyboarding.
We tried Paia fish market for dinner and we all loved it! It was so delicious. And then we had Uluani’s Shaved ice for dessert and that was super yummy. The clouds have been hiding the beautiful sunsets from us, but hopefully we catch a beautiful sunset tomorrow!

Sunrise
We drove up to the summit of Haleakala early this morning to watch the sunrise. We pulled the kids out of bed and the slept on the way. The sunrise was gorgeous!
Then we drove over to the west side of the island to spend the day at Napili Beach. It was really pretty but the waves were definitely more wild here today. The kids still enjoyed and they had fun snorkeling as well.
We tried a restaurant in Lahaina for dinner that Brad’s patient had recommended called Down the Hatch. It was yummy!
And then we caught the sunset on the pier. It was a pretty great day.
